Bardzo przyzwoity Death/Thrash z Italii i ich debiut album z roku 2014

There’s a new label in town and it is called Unspeakable Axe Records. One of the first releases on this label is Omnivore’s self-titled cd. This thrashy, crusty, grinding piece of metal greatness is fantastically complete from beginning to end. All influences and inspirations are very well executed with a precision not seen since the late 80’s or early 90’s. I love bands that give awesome classical nods to the old school and Omnivore is no different. I really like these guys.

The guitar work on this album riff-wise is predominantly on a classical thrash level. I would say somewhere between early Slayer and Early Metallica. The sound on the riffs sounds pretty polished or in other words they have a “clean” sound. The solos, however, are a little “dirtier” sounding but I believe this is what the band was going for and it really sets the vibe of the whole album. The interaction of the 2 styles complement each other nicely. The drums on this album sound like a fusion of Grip Inc. and old Pestilence if you can even imagine that. This guy rates right up there with the likes of Gene Hoglan and Hellhammer. Mind you the material on this album doesn’t seem all that difficult sounding, but it’s tight and precise so you can definitely tell the band did not rush the recording of this cd.

The vocal patterns on this cd are definitely a good choice. They sound like a mixture of Asphyx and Kreator. I mean this guy’s throat must have been on fire after recording this album. The consistency of the patterns on this cd make it even more enjoyable. Since there isn’t too much variation where the vocals are concerned I consider this another traditional or old school way of doing things which seems to be a theme of this band all the way from the thought process to the final product. I would have to say that this album, as a whole reminds me of Frankenstein’s monster only in musical form created from the following albums: Metallica “Kill Em All”, Slayer “Show No Mercy”, Napalm Death “Scum”, Pestilence “Consuming Impulse”, Phobia “Return to Desolation” and Kreator “Extreme Aggression” all sewn together.

With that being said, I have to give 2 thumbs up to Unspeakable Axe Records for signing this band and releasing this album. If this is a sign of things to come from this band and label then both will be around for a very long time to come. There are only 7 tracks on this cd but in this case is isn’t the quantity of what’s on this album it is the quality and the metal tunes presented here are some of the highest caliber in this particular genre of metal. Last but not least, what really puts the icing on the cake for this album is that there is a ghost track on the last song. It is a cover tune of Sepultura’s “Arise” and it is very well done I must say.
