Another wonderful book in this popular series. According to the author, approximately 75 percent of British gardens are less than 125 square metres in area, ie: they are small gardens. And a lot of coverage is given to such gardens by the media on TV, in gardening magazines and books and at garden festivals. With many ordinary gardeners, this gives rise to feelings of disenchantment and dissatisfaction with their own garden.
If you feel like this, then this is certainly the book for you as it sets out to give confidence to gardeners to achieve beautiful results by adopting a very practical and step-by-step approach. Advice is given on working out priorities, assessing your garden, design ideas, mapping out plans, getting started, hard landscaping, planting and using optional extras.
Throughout, the book is liberally illustrated with colour photographs and clear diagrams. The gardens highlighted are not show gardens, but are typical small gardens where everyday practical happenings take place. They were created by the Gardening Which? team at Capel Manor in Enfield, Middlesex, and they can be visited. --Susan Naylor
This small gardens guide shows how to turn problems into opportunities, explaining how to create an attractive but flexible - and probably multi-purpose - environment geared to the amount of time, effort and money that can be spent on its upkeep. |
