''Alabama Studio Style'' picks up where ''Alabama
Stitch Book'' (STC, 2008) left off, featuring new
techniques and a stunning collection of sewing projects
and also furthering the Alabama Chanin philosophy that
style extends from what we wear and how we decorate our
homes to how we spend our time and the care we show for
our environment and traditions. This is a craft and
lifestyle book all in one. ''Alabama Studio Style''
begins with detailed instructions for the hand-sewing,
quilting, embroidery, beading and stenciling techniques
required to create the featured projects, each one made
with organic or recyled materials and designed with
Alabama Chanin's haute homespun flair. Next up are over
20 extraordinary couture fashion and home projects, many
of the same ones that are handmade by the Alabama Chanin
artisans in and around Florence, Alabama and sell at
stores like Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman for thousands
of dollars.Among those included are the company's
celebrated camisole and tank dresses, a skirt, a tunic,
a scarf, several pillows, woven chair seats to revive
old chairs, a table made from scrap wood and then
embellished with stenciling and stitching, even a cake
plate composed of castaway china. Like ''Alabama Stitch
Book'', a pullout pattern sheet and stencil are also
included. Rounding out ''Alabama Studio Style'' are
inspirational and instructional sidebars that will help
readers to expand upon the skills and ideas they learn
about in this book as well as three delicious party
menus with recipes - an autumn brunch, a pickling party
and a celebration. |
